You’re in your Seed Era
Emerging | Curious | Tentatively Beginning
This is a time of beginning — delicate but full of potential. You’re dipping your toes into your creative work, or returning after time away, with a quiet curiosity. It might feel like there’s so much to learn, and that can be both exhilarating and overwhelming. You’re absorbing inspiration, learning what excites you, and beginning to imagine what might be possible if you keep going. You may feel like you’re pulled in so many directions in photography, or you’re excited to dive deep into a specific genre. Acknowledge every hit of curiosity and intuition you feel.
The Seed Era is a season of slow, inward growth. You may not feel confident yet, that’s okay. Confidence doesn’t come first; it’s built through practice, experience, and consistency. Confidence is built on keeping promises to yourself; the more you show up for yourself, the more you begin to trust yourself and the process. This time isn’t about getting everything “right.” It’s about allowing yourself to explore, giving yourself grace, and trusting what feels nourishing and true, even if it’s just a whisper of interest for now.
You might be:
Curious about photography, but unsure where to start
Simply just enjoying photography when if feels right or a moment or scene speaks to you
Gathering inspiration and consuming tutorials or content
Feeling tender, afraid to be seen or to mess up
Unsure of your style, but hungry to find it
Wondering if you’re “too late” or “not talented enough”
What helps most right now:
Safe, low-pressure creative experiments, like photo walks, visual journaling, giving yourself an assignment, or short challenges
Encouragement and gentle accountability
Connecting with others who have the same passion or curiosity
Try something just because you are so excited about photography — whether that’s a masterclass, workshop, or simply taking a weekend mini-photo trip in your local area
Not comparing yourself to others
Acknowledging that everyone starts somewhere, and you do your best with what you have
Celebrating small and big wins or aha moments (like picking up your camera, or learning a new technique, or booking your first client)
Letting go of needing to have it all figured out
Trust that your style will evolve and reveal itself to you in time
You don’t have to sprint. This is the season of planting, and your creative and photography roots are just beginning to take hold. It’s a season of hope, excitement, curiosity, joy, failures, successes, growth, and openness. Embrace it all and trust that you will find your way.
Keep watering and nurturing them!
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams. ”
We’ve all been there. You get home, so excited to check out your photos, certain there are a few gems on the card, only to upload them and feel that sinking feeling.
They just look…flat.
Dull.
Lackluster.
Maybe even boring?
It’s disappointing, especially when you felt the beauty in the moment. But I want to gently remind you: this happens to every photographer, and it isn’t so much as you doing something wrong, but maybe a misreading of the situation or poor circumstances that are out of your control. A flat photo isn’t a failure, it’s simply a clue.
