One Of A Kind

Queen Elizabeth the Great

I’m writing this from my kitchen table, ignoring the tasks that I had planned for the day. This is not structure and rather a rambling of thoughts due to the rush of emotions today. I woke up to the devastating news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. The only and only - Queen of all Queens. I felt compelled to mark this day in my memory. It’s one of those days you will remember where you were when you heard the news. I was on my morning run, listening to the news unfolding stride by stride. It didn’t want to believe it - it couldn’t be true. She has always been there, like a grandmother to the world. I never thought I would feel so emotional over a loss of a person I never met, but it feels like a familial loss that cuts deep. The day we all dreaded had finally arrived.

I’ve been a royalist even since I was a little girl, adoring anything to do with the United Kingdom. Regardless of your race, nationality, political stance, or faith, you can admire her exceptional character, service, and humility. She embodied the best of the best values - compassion, kindness, humility, bravery, practicality, warmth, class, and dignity. Her character has been an unwavering example and inspiration of a modern woman. Her quiet strength and unselfish nature are exemplary for all, especially in modern culture that rewards egotism self-indulgence, and narcissism. She has taught me many lessons from afar, an ever gracious, kind, and intelligent role model. Her values, steeped in tradition and perhaps from times past, are just what the world needs. She embodied the true meaning of the word royal without a song and dance - she operated on a higher level and mentality of the power of reservation, kindness, dignity, and humility. She commanded respect and reverence simply by the quality of her character without attention seeking. She knew who she was and her duty to her country, without complaints or explanation. That was part of the mystique and aura she carried. We all can strive to embody the essence of royalty. She will forever be a role model for me.

Her grace and intelligence will be sorely missed by the entire world. She was one of a kind and I can’t imagine the world without her. An end of an era - the Elizabethan age.

May her Majesty, Elizabeth the Great, rest in peace. Much love to those who all hold the Queen in their hearts.
