A Vermont autumn

It has been over 5 years since I last had a true fall…the autumn has always been a special time of the year growing up in Vermont. As you can imagine, we celebrated this season as it was so fleeting. The leaves slowly progressed from a muddy palette to the most vibrant and fiery hues that lit up the whole landscape. Our farm was surrounded with what seemed like trees on fire for about a week. Once peaked, usually in the second week of October, they would gradually fade to rusty, somber tones. If we are blessed with a bright and crisp day, you can’t help but want to spend every minute outside basking in the glorious sun that illuminated the leaves.

Only true New Englanders can understand the fleeting and fickle nature of the seasons. You eventually learn to appreciate what is here now and in the moment, because it could change in an instant. For example, a heavy rain storm could literally blow all the leaves away. Once the North winds blow in and the temperature slowly dips, the trees are nothing but bare skeletons bracing for the winter cold and snow. You can almost feel them seizing up with the chilled air settling in.

It was a true treat to be home and I relished every minute of it before I fly back to what feels like the middle of July! With so many changes back in my life in Maui, it was so wonderful to have the familiarity and comfort of home. Here are a few snippets of my holiday at home…

Enjoy this beautiful season,

x
